Behind the lens
Hi! I’m Charlie.
The first photograph I remember taking was on a Barbie-branded film camera in about 1997. I’d brought it to a riding lesson, and I’d love to be able to say I was a natural, a child wonder. But the film was developed and it turned out that – being only about three feet tall – I’d just managed to capture the legs and hooves of a horse. But that was the start of something I never could have guessed back then.
Since then, I’ve grown taller, worked on my skills, and become enamoured with every aspect of photography. Most of all, I love photographing people. Every human has an innate sense of their own mortality, of every moment being only fleeting. So to be able to freeze time, to capture those moments and keep them forever … it’s the closest we can get to magic.
So, why families? Well, every family deserves to have its story told. Our families are the people we spend the most time with, the people bonded to us, the people we are most connected to. And capturing those moments of connection, those pieces of who a person truly is – that’s special. Knowing those images will be treasured for a lifetime – generations, even – gives me a sense of meaning that can’t be replicated.
Thank you for coming to my website – I spent a long time on it. I’d be honoured if you’d check out my gallery, my blog, or – best of all – get in touch. I would love to help you tell your story.
